Chicago, Peoria & Western

RI

Owner: Bill Teeters

The Chicago, Peoria & Western is replacing an existing layout that was just not operationally friendly.  The new layout will be expanded to two levels and have no duck-unders.  This new layout will be a point to point layout with 6 main towns and 2 large yards at the end.  The layout towns are all really towns that have some kind of real world rail traffic in them.  The industries on the layout are mostly real rail served industries at the current time.  The layout will go from Chicago to Kansas City and will carry traffic to both coasts of the United States.  We will be utilizing JMRI to control our car movement on the layout.  We will also be using JMRI to control switches, signaling, and other things.  Removal of the old layout has started as of December 1st, 2010.  Track laying commenced on April 20th, 2011.  The golden spike was driven on November 30th, 2011.  We ran some test sessions and found some major problems for operations.  This caused us to rebuild both of our big yards to make operations flow better.  We also replaced the homasote on the old portion of the layout with drywall and totally revamped this area to feature an huge ethanol facility.  We hope to begin full time operations this fall.

Below are the original layout plans.  The actual track plan is relatively close to this but has some changes.
